There has been a lot of discussion about Common Core and what that means for each child. The National PTA has developed a short explanation of how the Common Core will affect your third grader. Follow the link below and scroll down to find the expectations for third grade. http://pta.org/parents/content.cfm?Ite
Every Monday-Thursday the children are required to read for 15 minutes as part of their homework assignments. Please be sure to look at their homework and expect accuracy and neatness. You cannot assume that the child's homework is done correctly just by asking them. Here is a site with a lot of great hints to help your child to be successful with homework assignments.
The children need to record their reading each evening in a reading log. Click on the reading children to print a copy of the reading log if you need one.
The children are expected to memorize addition and subtraction facts through 20. The children will be taking speed tests in class, and they need to be sure the facts are committed to memory. If your child would like to practice the facts on the computer, click on the image below to access various math practice web sites.
It is always wise to supervise your child anytime they are on the Internet.
Click on the Math Teacher for a list of math practice sites.
If you would like to order from the Scholastic Reading Club (Lucky Books), just click on the icon below.
You may access the textbooks used in the classroom at the sites below. You will need the code that was sent home for the login. Parent supervision is reccommended for visiting any web site
